Ownership and price exposure
A share represents an ownership interest in a company. Shareholder rights depend on the class of shares and how they are held. A share CFD is a separate contract linked to price movements and does not grant ownership of the share.
Company information matters
Earnings, company announcements and the business outlook can change investors’ expectations. Broader market conditions can also affect an individual company’s share price. A familiar company name does not make its shares or a derivative low risk.
Compare the rights and costs
A company can reduce or stop a dividend, and its share price can fall. For a share CFD, compare the contract’s financing, commissions and treatment of corporate actions. Leverage adds risk relative to the margin committed, while a gap can produce a different execution price from the level expected.

Is a share CFD the same as owning a share?
No. Share ownership and a CFD have different rights and contractual arrangements. A CFD does not make its holder a shareholder.
Are dividends guaranteed?
No. Companies can change or stop dividends. Any adjustment associated with a CFD depends on its contract and is different from shareholder ownership.
